Kimball Medical offers weekly t'ai chi sessions
The Center for Healthy Living at Kimball Medical Center, in cooperation with the Arthritis Foundation, offers courses in t'ai chi - a slow,nonmartial art form of movement.
These beginner classes, taught by an accredited t'ai chi instructor,provide instructions in gentle back-and-forth motions that can be done standing or seated and are easily learned.This form of t'ai chi is called sun style t'ai chi, named for its founder, Lu-Tang Sun, and incorporates gentle Chinese martial arts movements especially beneficial to those with arthritis.
"T'ai chi is an excellent form of exercise to promote posture, flexibility and strength for individuals with arthritis," says DaveTerlizzi, director of Rehabilitation Services at Kimball Medical Center. "Potential benefits of this form of exercise include improved balance, blood pressure, circulation, metabolism and energy."
Classes will be held Fridays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Center for Healthy Living, 198 Prospect St. in Lakewood. There is a fee of $2 per class.
