Join the movement to create a world free of MS Every hour someone is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic disease of the central nervous system for which there is no cure.Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body and stops people from moving. For some, this means living with unpredictable symptoms that can come and go, like numbness and blurred vision. For others, there is more permanent damage, like paralysis. For everyone impacted by MS, it means not knowing what the day will bring and always being prepared for the unexpected, making it difficult to move forward in life.
MSAwarenessWeek takes place March 9-15.To support the more than 4,000 who live with MS every day in the mid-Jersey area, and to move us closer to a world free of MS, the Mid Jersey Chapter of the National MS Society has organized several events to take place during the week.
"We are encouraging people to join the movement to move us closer to a world free of MS," said Michael Elkow, chapter president."Many have trouble imagining what their lives would be without being able to move.People living with MS understand that moving isn't always a guarantee and MSAwarenessWeek is an opportunity for everyone who wants to do something about MS now to get involved."
Among other events, the chapter will begin the week hosting a social program to help those with MS"Chase Away the Blues"on March 9.The week will also feature the annual MS Lobby Day on March 13.The chapter's New Jersey CoalitionAdvocacy Network (NJCAN) will visit the capital building inTrenton to meet legislators and policy makers and ask for their support on crucial issues important to individuals with multiple sclerosis.
