On Sept. 24,Ocean Medical Center is hosting"Kids View:ATrip to the Operating Room," and open house developed in anticipation of families scheduling their children for pediatric surgeries. The event, offered free of charge as a public service to the community, will include a tour of surgical areas, where children and their families will have the opportunity to see an operating room firsthand. Guests will also be introduced to the nurses of Ocean Medical Center's operating room (OR) staff and will be provided the opportunity to ask questions. In addition, the staff will offer snacks, prizes and more.
"While most of us have been in a hospital at one point or another in our lives, many people, especially children, have never seen the inside of an operating room,"explained LynneTomlinson, R.N., a nurse educator who helped the OR staff organize Kid's View."Our goal is simple: to help parents and their children prepare for an operating room experience in a comfortable, fun environment. This way, they can see for themselves what an operating room is all about."
The program is recommended for children ages 4-12 years old.
